DHS earth care initiative, a national contender





The Day High School Mangrove Management Initiatives was declared champion during the regional competition sponsored by the Department of Education in cooperation with the Charter on Human Responsibilities, held on December 11, 2009 at the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School.
The said regional contest led the department to vie for a national slot all onward to an international conference of children and youth which will be held in Brasilia, Brazil in June.
Joesil Dianne Sempron, DHS freshman was the department’s representative who brought the said program known all over the country during the national tilt, held last February 4-5 in Manila.

UB conquers GSP District Tuklas ng Talino By Junmari Chevyn Apostol


The UB DHS Girl Scouts won 1st Place Oration Contest, 2nd Essay in Writing Contest and 3rd Place in Vocal Solo during the District GSP Tuklas ng Talino held on November 17, 2009.
The said winners are Reina Rose Amor Galo, Junmari Chevyn Apostol and Hyacinth Mae Abueva of the first, second and fourth place respectively.
As noted, Galo won the provincial level oratorical declamation right after the said district level which was held at Holy Spirit School, this city.
A salute to the GSP Advsier, Ms. Cielo Morgia for a job well done!

DHSians shine at UP Litmus Ocho By: Myr Bernaldez



Day High School contenders to the 8th UP Kadugong Bol-anon Literary and Musical Contests sweep awards from the three categories participated, namely: Modern Dance Attack, Battle of the Bands and Comical Duo.

These DHS entries were declared champions in the aforementioned first two categories and 2nd place in the comical duo that made the department ranked FIRST RUNNER-UP from the overall six participating secondary schools in the city.

Credits go to the respective coaches of said contests, to mention, Mrs. Elma Canuto, Mr. Arnel Libot, Mrs. Grace Filomeno and Mr. Alfredo Guirit.

Meanwhile, the Academic Race Team, coached by Mr. Rogie Redula, of the same UP-sponsored contest landed 3rd place from among a number of both private and public secondary schools in the city that sent equally competitive teams such as UB’s.

Bernaldez is WFD’s 3rd best speaker

      Danielle Myr B. Bernaldez, 4th Year-Fortitude student of the Day High School got third place in the city-wide World Food Day extemporaneous speaking contest held at the Island City Mall last October 16, 2009. The event was sponsored by BISAD (Bohol Initiatives for Sustainable Agriculture and Development) and the Department of Agriculture.
     Bernaldez bested around ten representatives from all the participating public and private schools in the city. Among the top three winners, one comes from Bohol Island State University (BISU) and the other is from Bohol Wisdom School.

Softball team champs city olympics By: Lindsay Cagampang

DHS athletes once more proved their worth and unified determination to win as they join the Tagbilaran City Olympics held last October 1-3, this year at the CPG Sports Complex.

This is manifested when the softball team beats both public and private school opponents bringing home their first ever championship which has been held for years by a tough competitor.

Public, private elementary, and secondary schools in the city participated the said sports activity and that softball team championship was just one of the many commendable wins of the DHS team on that said event.

UB Days Blast, reviewed By. Chevyn Apostol

“A UNIFIED COMMITMENT FOR EXCELLENCE: One Heart…One Spirit... One UB Family”

University Days- the most anticipated event of UBians. After the first-ever technological countdown, the different departments of the university flaunted what they have got during the opening ceremony’s field demonstration. In addition, to brag, we- DHSians with our colorful and splendid masks, we sure we’re a stunner.

For the rest of the weeklong festivities, different booths also popped up which made the DHSians feel the spirit. To name, there were Fun Hauz, Marriage Booth, Disco and Food Trip Mania.

The said booths not only provide merriment to while away the time for ‘log-in and log-out” but it also honed the entrepreneurial skills of the students.

University-wide activities such as Battle of the Bands, Dance Sports, Dance Attack, Night of Music, Battle of the Brains, Cheer dance Competition and the Search for Mr. and Ms. UB Personality highlighted the UB Days celebration and not to forget the countless athletic events where athletes sparked up in competitive spirits.

The last day was filled with outpouring of shouts in anticipation to hear the big announcement- this year’s overall champion nagged by the College of Business and Accountancy.The closing activity lasted till’ evening as partygoers cheered the night away with a disco.

UBians all went home tired, exhausted but much hyped for the happenings of the UB Days and looking forward to another year full of more blast than this.
